Do you have a favorite character? Pokémon, Hello Kitty, and Kirby are all characters born in Japan. Character cafes are where you can enter the world of these characters. Here are some of the permanent character cafes in Tokyo!
Pokémon Cafe
Reservations Required
You may have heard about the world-famous Pokémon-filled cafe in Tokyo. This Pokémon cafe is located in Nihonbashi near Tokyo Station. The food and drinks are cute, and fans will love it. However, getting a reservation is quite difficult. For more information about reservations at Pokémon cafes, please see this article.
In Ikebukuro, there is a self-service cafe where you can enjoy without a reservation. Pikachu, dressed as a chef, welcomes you.
Sanrio Cafe
No reservation required
For those of you who love Hello Kitty and other Sanrio characters, we recommend the Sanrio Cafe in Ikebukuro. You can enjoy a menu featuring your favorite characters such as My Melody, Pom Pom Purin, and Cinnamoroll. Of course, don’t forget to take a picture before you eat.
Sanrio character goods featuring ice cream are also available. You don’t have to use the café to see them, so stop by.
Cinnamoroll Cafe
No reservation required
In Shinjuku, there is a cafe dedicated to Cinnamorolls. If you want to be surrounded by Cinnamorolls, this is the place to go. Of course, the menu and goods are full of Cinnamorolls!
Pom Pom Purin Cafe
No reservation required
There is a cafe in Harajuku dedicated to Pom Pom Purin. If you like Pom Pom Purin, this is the place for you!
Kirby Cafe
Reservations required
Under the Sky Tree, the tallest radio tower in the world, there is a commercial facility called Skytree Town. The Kirby Cafe is located there. Various menus are offered, but we recommend the menu with a lunch box. If you take it home with you, you can feel like you are at Kirby Cafe at home. However, it is very difficult to get a reservation. There is also “Kirby Cafe the Store” next door where you can buy Kirby goods, so even if you can’t get into the cafe, you can still get some Kirby goods.
Harry Potter Cafe
Reservations accepted. (If you make a reservation, you will be guided on a priority basis.)
Although not a Japanese production, there is a café in Akasaka where you can enjoy the world of Harry Potter. You can enjoy not only light meals and desserts, but also course meals.
Some goods are available only for those who use the café (or take out), so if you want to get your hands on rare goods, make a reservation before you go!
Right next to the cafe is Mahou Dokoro, a store specializing in Harry Potter goods, so be sure to check it out as well!
